A few weeks back I visited Gorgeous Gerties Vintage Emporium in Dorking, Surrey and fell instantly in love. This place is a treasure chest of shabby chic, antique and crafty gems all served up with a slice of tea and cake.
In fact, the best way I can describe it is like a real life Pinterest search under the term ‘vintage’ where the results range from clothing to jewellery, teapots to fabrics and everything in between. Here’s a sneak peek from my visit:
Situated on the picturesque West Street (the antiques capital of the South East) Gorgeous Gerties entices customers in with pastel colours splashed across its outdoor bunting, lanterns and table cloths.
When you step inside, you’ll find the café on the ground floor serving cream teas, homemade cakes and light lunches onto mismatched crockery complete with cute little tea cosies (I actually ordered a pot of tea just to see which one would arrive at my table – cute!). The eye candy doesn’t stop at the table either as there are vintage bits and bobs literally all around you with sweet little plaques and pictures hanging on the walls for you to buy.
And if you’re still peckish after your cuppa and cake you’ll find the Olde Worlde Sweet Shop towards the back of the café/shop. Its actually like stepping back in time! Bon bons, check. Chocolate limes, check. White mice, check.
The real magic of this place though begins as soon as you step upstairs to the vintage boutique. Here you will find entire ranges from over 30 different sellers including cake stands, soaps, fabrics, jewellery, flowers and clothing. The items here are all truly unique, many of which are handmade, and you can also find something to suit every pocket.
Gorgeous Gerties is truly gorgeous – a recommended visit for anyone passing by Surrey with a penchant for vintage. Do let me know if you decide to give it a try – meanwhile, I will be busy dreaming about my return.
